August hope

if it was up to me

I would transport

myself across the miles

to where you are comfy

curled up on the couch

took a sip of your beer

as I slipped in next to you

and surprise your skin

and you recognized

me and my smile

where have I been

can you tell

can you see

how I am broken in

it isn’t fair

that in the past

I chased evil

and ran right by heaven

another day

may go by

but when I saw you I swore

I would never do that again

I remember it tonight

in the wind

in the rain
