gasping for air on top of a
overlook that is only one place
in a great many hours
not many went by without thinking of here
green trees as far as the eye can see
soft sounds of blankets of branches
off in the distance water with white caps
voices of echoes that trees give each other
exit wounds of tree limbs that left home
rocks that show signs of
years of living on the bottom of a river
beds and travel from the tops of great
aching heights far above the fields
tossing pine needles across these winds
tiny past moments rise up and say hello
yet my mind is right here and so far away with you

making exactly right
another feeling like a drifting boat
getting a new way out of where you are lost
not to be remembering a time when the car wouldn’t start
eventually the will to keep going
takes over when you realize the people you left behind
each wish was too see them again
nothing like a frozen drink
emitting the ache we shared once
rotting our brains instead of getting up and
going out to be with those we know
it was our wasted time that somehow found us
equal amount of choices and luck
so I had to go through that to find you

Coming in from the cold I can
Only give you a taste of how I am
Unless you are willing to go on a walk and
Realize the hours go by everywhere else
Analyse what makes you think you must
Get more out of this life any more than
Everybody else gets and why not
Make the best of what you wanted
Only so many people get to be as lucky as you
Maybe the fun you want is what you can have to
End your thoughts on the struggles and trials
Now that you can come home and be calm or
Take a night to go have a good time again
Use any time you have to be grateful for
Making as great a life as you got

parties that make up their mind
at the very last second
really answering the questions I had
taking it one minute at a time
isn’t that what we said we would do
now that the new year is here
green grass and the cold weather snap
going out again
in the final moments of the year
from this bright meeting to our dark corner
taking you anywhere life goes…
