Soup

with care

and an abundance of passion

I thought of what I would do

besides tell you

how much you are the

treasure of joy

that came its way

from the sun’s grinning face

so I grabbed onions

yellow like old paper and

tomatoes red like blood and

veggies that smile with

winks of garlic and

freshest parsley I can get

and chili powder from

a brand I like

and everything else looks like

my bag of stuff

Seems like soup already

and when you get home you know

it’s my famous chili

and you are smelling it

before you even get in the door

and you kiss me gladly

like this dinner is

comfort as if each bite is

slipping into a hot bath

as if I read your mind

all the time
